Self Defense

What is self defense in today's environment?

In our view the first stage of self defense is awareness. You need to understand that avoiding conflict is not accidental, where you choose to walk, what time of the day it is, what you carry on your person where you park the car. All these situations and many more require a level of awareness. Most victims of planned violence are not aware they have been selected until it is too late. Violence is very dirty, people who look for it have no rules, no style, no grade and no honor.

Will you be able to defend yourself?

If you are aware you may be able to avoid a situation, if you cannot avoid you may be able to run or talk your way out of an attack, if you are attacked you will have some training in how to defend yourself. Do not believe that this will save you, many courses teach so called defense techniques but in practice with your adrenaline rushing through you, you may freeze and the complex moves will take too long and may be ineffective. If the person is an adult attacking a child then there is unlikely to be a physical defense as adults are too strong for children.

Whether your skills save you at that moment will be down to you.

You will know more than the average person, you will have experienced physical force during your training and you will understand how dangerous violence can be. You will have learned some techniques which if you are lucky can maim or incapacitate a person giving you time to escape. You will also know your limitations. Many fights start when one party usually under the influence of alcohol kicks off and others who should know better join in. You will be instructed as to how these situations occur and how to avoid them.
